The Almussafes factory reduces its emissions
In 2021, the Ercros factory in Almussafes reduced its total emissions index and improved the quality of its products and services.
Specifically, the emissions index that measures substances emitted into air, water, and waste generation, was reduced by 2% compared to 2020, consolidating the improvement initiated in 2014.
In terms of safety, in 2021, this factory has reduced by 11% the general accident frequency rate, which measures accidents between own and external personnel (with and without sick leave) for every million hours worked compared to the average of the last five years.
It also improved the quality of its products. Between 2020 and 2021, the factory reduced its claims rate by 54%. This index measures the number of tons of products affected by customer complaints versus the number of tons sold.
The Almussafes factory has certified its environmental management according to ISO 14001; occupational safety management according to ISO 45001; and is finalizing the certification of energy management according to ISO-50001. It also has its greenhouse gas emissions verified in accordance with ISO 14064.
The performance of Ercros in all aspects of sustainability has earned it the Platinum classification in the international EcoVadis rating, obtaining a score of 84 out of 100 with which Ercros is among the 1% with the best compliance with ESG (environmental, social and governance) good practices of the 75,000 companies evaluated, and has obtained an A rating and 77 points out of 100 in the ESG Rating 2021 of the Spanish Institute of Financial Analysts. Likewise, the company has been certified as a CSR Company in the Excellence category, by the Responsible Care program of the global chemical sector.
The Almussafes factory is part of the intermediate chemicals division of Ercros. It directly employs 110 people and in 2021 had a turnover of more than 100 million euros. It exports 70% of its production and is the world leader in the paraformaldehyde market. Almussafes also produces the range of green resins, ErcrosGreen+, whose level of emissions is similar to that of natural wood, and the range of ErcrosTech, a technical resins intended for high performance applications (decorative laminates, can coatings for food use, etc.).
