What is it for?

Potassium carbonate is used:

  • In the pharmaceutical, food, fertiliser, pigment and dye industries, liquid soaps and detergents, paint strippers and in the chemical industry in general.
    For the production of ceramics.
  • For the manufacture of glass for cathode ray tubes, lighting, laboratory equipment and optical instruments.
  • For the manufacture of household tableware.

Did you know that...

Potassium carbonate was formerly obtained by leaching ashes from burnt wood or vegetables. In the late 18th century, it began to be used in the US as a yeast agent for bread.
