Ercros signs with Naturgy a long-term agreement for Almussafes and Sabiñánigo
Ercros has reached a long-term electricity purchase agreement (PPA), by which Naturgy will supply electricity from renewable sources to the Almussafes (Valencia) and Sabiñánigo (Huesca) factories.
"This agreement reinforces Ercros' commitment in its fight against climate change and the decarbonisation of its activity, which is one of the three dimensions of the strategic plan, Plan 3D, that we have implemented," said Agustin Franco, chief operating officer of Ercros.
On his part, eastern region manager director of Naturgy, Francisco García Vizcaino, pointed out the importance of agreements such as the one signed with Ercros to move towards a decarbonised economy. "We want to offer our customers products and services adapted to their needs but that at the same time contribute to the energy transition," he explained.
The Ercros factory in Sabiñánigo employs 218 workers and in 2020 had a turnover of 93 million euros. It is focused on the production of chlorine, caustic soda and the chlorinated derivatives sodium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid; tablets for the treatment of swimming pool water; sodium chlorite and chlorate; and hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. 58% of its production is destined for export.
On its part, the factory in Almussafes employs 109 people and last year had a turnover of 59 million euros. It exports 65% of its production, which is focused on the manufacture of formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde and resins, which are used mainly in the manufacture of boards and laminates, such as the ErcrosGreen+ range, whose level of emissions is similar to that of natural wood or such as the Ercros Tech range, that includes technical polymers intended for high-performance applications
