Soil restoration students visit the Ercros site in Flix
A group of ten students and two lecturers from the master's degree in Ecology, management and restoration of the natural environment at the University of Barcelona (“UB”) visited the Ercros facilities in Flix. The students are studying the subject of management and restoration of contaminated soils and wanted to see first-hand how the process of cleaning up the land of the old factory is being carried out.
Gonzalo Navarro, head of the Flix centre, was in charge of welcoming them and making the initial presentation of the day. Lara Caso, a technician from Ercros' sustainable development department, presented the soil remediation management being carried out at the factory.
The visit continued with a tour of the grounds of the old factory, where Lara Caso, accompanied by Marcos González, a remediation technician from the company Sarpi Ibérica, showed the land that has already been restored and explained the operation of the water treatment plant in the area known as the Aubal and the vapour absorption treatment plants.
The students, coming from countries around the world and trained as environmentalists, biologists and geologists, highly valued the opportunity they have been given to learn first-hand about a practical example of the theoretical knowledge they are working on in the classroom.
