Advantages and disadvantages of pool water disinfection treatments

The main agents used to disinfect swimming pool water are: sodium and calcium hypochlorite; trichloroisocyanuric acid; chlorine generated by salt electrolysis; bromine; active oxygen; UV light and ozone. The Ercros Research and Technology (R&T) Department has analysed the advantages and disadvantages of these treatments, the results of which are set out in this article. A comparative study of the monthly cost of their use has also been carried out.

Swimming pool water, although transparent and clear, contains a series of micro-organisms that must be eliminated as they can be harmful to bathers, which is why it is necessary to disinfect swimming pools correctly. There are different disinfection treatments, which can be divided according to whether they use chlorine or not.
