Ercros is making progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the activity of its factories in Vila-seca I and Vila-seca II, and in improving their competitiveness, thanks to the projects the company is going to launch, with an investment exceeding 50 million euros, 15 of which are subsidised with funds from the Perte for industrial decarbonisation. These projects will facilitate the creation of 18 jobs.

The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, today visited the Vila-seca II factory to personally learn about these industrial projects, which are part of Ercros' strategic plan, 3D Plan, which is aimed at diversifying, digitising and decarbonising its activities.

Before starting the visit, the Minister stated that “Ercros is a magnificent example of by, decarbonizing the industry, the industry is strengthened. Reducing emissions by 50% is essential to ensure the industrial future. It’s a virtuous circle: we reduce emissions, strengthen industrial projects and guarantee the future; it’s what we want in Tarragona and throughout Spain”.

For his part, the Chief Operating Officer of Ercros, Agustín Franco, thanked and valued the help received from the Ministry by recalling that these projects will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from both factories by 56%. According to Franco: "In addition to this considerable environmental achievement, these actions will also improve our competitiveness and, therefore, consolidate industrial activity."

The investments that Ercros plans to complete in 2026 in Vila-seca I and Vila-seca II factories will allow greater energy efficiency and the replacement of natural gas as an energy source by hydrogen, biomass, and electricity obtained from renewable sources. These investments have been declared a "Strategic Business Project" by the Department of Business and Employment of the Generalitat de Catalunya and already have the integrated environmental authorisation.

These actions are in line with the objective of the European Commission's new legislative package, the “Clean Industrial Deal”, which seeks to coordinate climate neutrality and the improvement of the competitiveness of European industry in a single strategy
