Ercros shares its knowledge on climate change at Expoquimia
Ercros has actively participated in the international fair Expoquimia, which has been held this week in Barcelona, through presentations and discussion panels in which the company has shared its experience in various areas of knowledge.
Agustín Franco, general business director, and Francisco España, director of the chlorine derivatives division, presented the paper "Plan 3D: achievements and challenges". The speakers explained the successes achieved in terms of decarbonisation and the fight against climate change thanks to the investment plan that Ercros launched in 2021, as well as the next actions to be carried out.
Successes included a 19% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the last year; a 5% reduction in electricity consumption in the chlorine manufacturing plants; and a 15% reduction in the consumption of solvents for pharmaceutical products. In turn, the consumption of recycled salt at the Sabiñánigo factory increased by 25%.
As for the next steps, they cited the replacement of fossil fuels with "green" energies through the construction of a new biomass steam production plant and a photovoltaic power generation park; the increased production of "green" hydrogen; the increased use of recycled material in the manufacture of PVC products and moulding compounds; as well as the continued improvement of energy efficiency and the electrification of processes.
Mari Carmen Cruzado, director of the pharmaceuticals division, took part in the discussion panel "Chemistry and new professional skills facing the European Green Pact", in which the speakers debated the new skills that workers in the chemical industry of the future will need to have.
Finally, Joan Miquel Capdevila and Belén Brota, director and head of quality and environment, respectively, of the Tarragona industrial complex; accompanied by the dual training degree student Joaquín Giménez, formed the discussion panel "The dual degree in chemistry. A talent opportunity for companies" organised by the Universitat Rovira i Virgili.
