Logistics management at Ercros saves 8,580 t of CO2 emissions in 2024

Barcelona,

The measures adopted in the logistics area of Ercros to move towards the circular economy and the decarbonisation of its activity have saved 8,580 tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2024, 59% more than in 2023.

Most of the emissions savings come from purchasing pallets made from reused wood and reusing pallets, which avoids cutting down and processing the wood and reducing its ability to capture CO2. The purchase of second-hand or recycled wood pallets and the reuse of pallets from the raw materials received reached 50% of the more than 275,000 pallets used by Ercros in 2024, 26 percentage points more than in the previous year. This increase has been possible thanks to the greater availability of this type of pallet on the market, the approval of new suppliers and the incorporation of more references in the different Ercros factories.

In addition, Ercros sent the wood from the packaging of raw materials and the breakages of its packaging to specialised managers for recovery, instead of managing it as waste. In 2024, about 150 tons of wood were managed in this way.

The company optimised internal truck transport operations between the port of Barcelona and the Sabiñánigo factory by reducing the number of trucks and trips by replacing them with others with greater capacity.

36% of all the plastic used by Ercros in packaging was recycled plastic, 7 percentage points more than in 2023. Currently, around 75% of the references acquired by the company include recycled plastic.
