Master's students in soil remediation visit the centre in Flix

Flix,

Students from the master's degrees in ecology, management and remediation of the natural environment at the University of Barcelona ("UB") and in soil and water management at the University of Lleida ("UdL"), accompanied by two professors, have visited the Ercros facilities in Flix. The students are taking the course on contaminated soil management and restoration and wanted to learn how the remediation process of the former factory site is being carried out.

Gonzalo Navarro, responsible of the Flix centre, was in charge of welcoming them and making the initial presentation of the day. For her part, Lara Caso, technician of the sustainable development direction of Ercros, explained how soil remediation is being managed.

The visit continued with a tour of the old factory soil, where Lara Caso, accompanied by Marcos González, remediation technician of the Sarpi Ibérica company, showed the land that has already been remediated and explained the operation of the water treatment plant in the area known as L'Aubal and the vapor adsorption treatment plants.

The students, who come from countries all over the world and are trained as environmentalists, biologists and geologists, valued very positively the opportunity they have been given to learn first-hand about a practical example of the theoretical knowledge they are working on in the classroom.
