The operational improvements allow a reduction of 2,671 t of CO2
Ercros managed to reduce 2,671 tons of CO2 in its transport operations in 2019, thanks to the applied operational and logistical improvements consisting, among other measures, in approximating the distribution points of its products to customers. The reduction achieved in 2019 was 62% greater than that achieved in 2018, which has meant generating 1,024 tons of CO2 less than in that year.
The strategy implemented by Ercros in terms of product storage is aimed at reducing the time and cost of transport, and the CO2 emissions generated on the routes; a practical measure of this strategy, carried out in 2019, is the conditioning of a new storage for liquid potash carried out in Bilbao.
Similarly, in the last year, the Ercros factory in Sabiñánigo (Huesca) met the objective of self-supplying caustic soda, which prevented more than 45,000 tons of soda from being transported to this factory, with the consequent cost reduction and emissions.
The logistics applied to the distribution of soda and potash allowed Ercros to reduce truck routes by 3.8 million km in 2019.
In 2018, Ercros had already managed to reduce CO2 emissions by 1,647 tons and reduce the journeys made by 2.3 million km, after increasing its storage and distribution capacity with tanks at the port terminals of Tarragona, Barcelona, Bilbao, Ferrol, Sevilla and Génova.
For the financial year 2020, Ercros intends to continue along this line, incorporating the installation of a new storage in Barcelona.
