Ercros's 3D Plan, one of the best #PorelClima business examples

Barcelona,

The Ercros 3D Plan for the period 2021-2025 has been recognized as one of the 101 Business Examples #PorelClima, an initiative promoted, among others, by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the United Nations Global Compact. This distinction recognizes Ercros' commitment and ambition in the fight against climate change and its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Ercros' goal to fight climate change is to achieve a 39% reduction in direct CO2 emissions by 2025 compared to 2020 emissions; to reach this objective, the company has planned an investment of 31 million euros. The 3D Plan seeks to transform Ercros into a sustainable company from the point of view of diversification, digitalisation and decarbonisation. Actions in the framework of decarbonisation focus on the fight against climate change by improving energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, making better use of the hydrogen, the circular economy and sustainable mobility.

To reduce CO2 emissions, Ercros is going to build a photovoltaic plant at its factory in Flix (Tarragona) and another for the generation of steam through biomass combustion in Vila-seca II (Tarragona).

To increase the use of the hydrogen generated in the sodium chlorate and chlorine-caustic soda plants, the steam boilers at its factories in Sabiñánigo (Huesca), and Vila-seca I and Vila-seca II (Tarragona) will be adapted.

To improve its energy efficiency, Ercros will adapt the production processes and promote the reuse of residual energy and raw materials at its factories in Almussafes (Valencia) and Tortosa, Vilaseca I and Vila-seca II (Tarragona).

And to give a boost to the circular economy, the company will launch several projects, such as optimizing the use of chemical products in the synthesis and extraction plant of the Aranjuez factory (Madrid) or the reuse of waste material from moulding compounds in Cerdanyola (Barcelona).
